Levels of hormones are first checked in order to determine the exact dosage. Once the patient and doctor discuss the need, risk, and benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy and the decision is made to proceed with the pellets, the actual procedure is scheduled.
The procedure involves a 3mm incision made in the right or left gluteus region. The pellets are placed into the fatty tissue. No sutures are needed because the incision is very small. Tape is applied and worn for three days. The procedure only takes approximately 20 minutes and is done with a local anesthetic.
In most patients, the first year consists of 3 pellet insertions. Subsequent therapies require 2 insertions per year.
